About Trasmediterránea
Trasmediterránea was Spain's oldest ferry company: since January 1917 it had connected the mainland with the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and the Spanish cities in North Africa. For travellers arriving from mainland Europe, it was for decades the ferry company for the Canary Islands route from Cádiz, with overnight crossings and a vehicle deck. In 2018 the Canary Islands company Naviera Armas took a majority stake, and the group traded as Armas Trasmediterránea.
What happened in 2026
In 2026 the group was acquired by Baleària. In the Canary Islands, the ships have sailed under the brand Baleària Canarias since May 2026; the company itself talks of three ferry companies with one shared history. The Trasmediterránea brand name has therefore disappeared from the timetable, while the routes remain: the mainland route from Cádiz and the inter-island connections of the Volcán fleet. What this means for your booking
Bookings are made with Baleària, online, in the app or at the port. Baleària Canarias' check-in deadlines apply, 60 minutes without a vehicle and 90 minutes with a vehicle, with desks in Cádiz opening at least two hours before departure. Pets travel in Baleària's facilities, from the Pet&You spot next to your seat to a pet-friendly cabin; motorhomes can travel on every ferry. Not under that name any more. The mainland route from Cádiz and the inter-island connections have sailed as Baleària Canarias since May 2026. If you're looking for Trasmediterránea, you now book with Baleària; the ships and ports are largely the same.

Mainly the mainland route from Cádiz to Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Palma, as well as inter-island connections such as Tenerife - Gran Canaria. All of them are now listed on the page Naviera Armas, now Baleària Canarias.
Is my old Trasmediterránea account still valid?+
The former SeaClub has merged into the Baleària Club; Baleària informs members of this on its website. For open bookings, contact Baleària Canarias customer service.
