Getting there and the Playa Blanca terminal

All three operators depart from the Muelle de Playa Blanca in the municipality of Yaiza, right on the edge of the resort. From Arrecife and the airport, the LZ-2 leads to Playa Blanca in around 35 minutes; in town, follow the signs for Puerto and Ferry. Sales desks for the operators sit at the harbour, and foot passengers with a boarding pass go straight to the jetty.

Check-in and departure

Under its terms of carriage, Fred Olsen Express requires you to be ready to board 20 minutes before departure, 40 minutes at the quay with a vehicle. Baleària Canarias requires 60 minutes without and 90 minutes with a vehicle. For Líneas Romero, the time on your ticket applies. Bring ID or a passport in your hand luggage, and residents show proof of address for the discount.

On board

Fred Olsen Express sails with the catamarans Bocayna Express and Buganvilla Express, Líneas Romero with the Don Juan, and Baleària Canarias with the ferry Volcán de Tindaya. All three have seating areas and an outdoor deck, and Líneas Romero has an on-board bar; none of them has cabins on such a short crossing. Payment is in euros, by card.

Vehicles, bicycles and pets

Cars, motorhomes, motorbikes and bicycles travel with all three operators; vehicle type and registration plate go into the booking. The most common case on this route is the rental car: many hire companies on both islands forbid the crossing in their rental agreement, so check before booking. You register pets; Fred Olsen Express offers a carrier, Pet Rooms and a Pet Sofa, Baleària Canarias Pet&You mats and kennels, and Líneas Romero also carries animals. Arrival in Corralejo and onward travel

The ferries dock at the Muelle de Corralejo in the municipality of La Oliva, right in the middle of town. It's a few minutes' walk to the centre, and the Corralejo dunes lie a few kilometres to the south. Puerto del Rosario is around 40 kilometres away via the FV-1, the airport around 45 minutes; the island buses run from the bus station in town. Excursion boats to the Isla de Lobos also depart from the same harbour.

Arrecife - Puerto del Rosario: the ferry between the capitals

Alongside the fast ferry across the Bocaina, there's an occasional direct link between the two island capitals. Baleària Canarias sails between Arrecife, Muelle de Los Mármoles, and Puerto del Rosario, Estación Marítima at the Muelle Comercial, usually once a week: in two hours 15 to three hours depending on the ship, with the Sicilia or the Ciudad de Valencia. From Arrecife the ship departs in the late afternoon, from Puerto del Rosario at night. Baleària Canarias's deadlines apply, 60 minutes without and 90 minutes with a vehicle; cars and motorhomes travel along, and the ships have cabins. For everyday travel, Playa Blanca - Corralejo remains the choice; the capital ferry is worthwhile with a motorhome or if you're starting from Arrecife or Puerto del Rosario anyway. Tickets and fares

All three operators sell online and at the port. Canary Islands residents get a 75 percent state discount, and large families get discounts with Fred Olsen Express and Líneas Romero. Baleària Canarias offers a fare with free cancellation, and Líneas Romero a flexible ticket.
