Three ports, three directions

Lanzarote has three ferry ports, and each serves its own direction. Playa Blanca at the very south is the port for Fuerteventura, Arrecife in the island capital the port for the long routes to Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Cádiz, and Órzola at the far north the departure point for La Graciosa.
Fuerteventura from Playa Blanca
The La Bocaina strait lies between Playa Blanca and Corralejo, and it carries the busiest ferry line in the Canary Islands: Fred Olsen Express with Bocayna Express and Buganvilla Express (25 minutes, up to 13 departures a day), Líneas Romero with the Don Juan (25 minutes, five departures) and Baleària Canarias with the Volcán de Tindaya (35 minutes, seven departures). Together that's around 25 crossings a day, all year round, all carrying vehicles. Booking ahead is worthwhile in peak season and with a car; as a foot passenger you'll usually find a spontaneous spot too. Gran Canaria and Tenerife from Arrecife
The long routes are run by Baleària Canarias. To Las Palmas the ship takes just over six hours, one departure on most days. To Santa Cruz de Tenerife it's around ten hours, often overnight. Both ships (Sicilia, Volcán de Tamadaba) have cabins and a car deck. If you're travelling by car, going via Fuerteventura is often the quicker combination: cross to Corralejo, drive down the island to Morro Jable, and from there 105 minutes to Las Palmas.
Fuerteventura from Arrecife
Besides the fast ferry in the south, there's an occasional direct connection between the two capitals: Baleària Canarias sails between Arrecife and Puerto del Rosario in around two and a half hours, usually once a week as part of the mainland line. For everyday travel, Playa Blanca - Corralejo is the route to use.
La Graciosa from Órzola
The eighth island lies less than two kilometres off the northern tip of Lanzarote. From Órzola, Líneas Romero and Biosfera Express sail to Caleta de Sebo in 25 minutes, together around 16 departures a day. Cars stay on Lanzarote, but bicycles come along. More on the page Ferry to La Graciosa.
From the mainland via Cádiz
Arrecife is the first stop on the Baleària line from Andalusia: around 28 hours from Cádiz, one or two departures a week, with cabins, a car deck and pet areas. Everything on booking and the terminal is on the route page Cádiz - Lanzarote.
Taking your car on the ferry
The car comes with you on every route from Playa Blanca and Arrecife. With Baleària Canarias the rule is: 90 minutes before departure at the terminal with a vehicle, 60 minutes without. Fred Olsen Express and Líneas Romero ask for your number plate when you book. Only for La Graciosa does the car stay behind in Órzola, where there's parking at the port. With a rental car, check the rental terms before every crossing.
