Gran Canaria lies at the centre of the archipelago, and the timetable follows the geography: from Las Palmas you reach Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma and both mainland ports without changing ferries. Then there's Agaete in the northwest, a dedicated ferry port for the fast ferry to Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Tenerife from Agaete and Las Palmas
Two routes, two ferry companies. Fred Olsen Express sails from Agaete to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 80 minutes, seven departures a day, all year round, with the catamarans Bajamar Express, Bencomo Express and Banaderos Express. The company's Ferry Bus runs between Las Palmas and Agaete. Baleària Canarias sails from Las Palmas direct to Santa Cruz in around 100 minutes, four to five departures a day. Both carry vehicles. Fuerteventura from Las Palmas
The fast connection runs to Morro Jable in the south of Fuerteventura: 105 minutes with Fred Olsen Express (Betancuria Express, Barlovento Express) or Baleària Canarias (Mercedes Pinto, Volcán de Tagoro), together four to six departures a day, all year round. To Puerto del Rosario, the island's capital, Baleària Canarias sails around six hours, five days a week, usually as an overnight crossing. Both routes in detail: Ferry Gran Canaria - Fuerteventura.
Lanzarote from Las Palmas
The Baleària ferry takes around six to six and a half hours to Arrecife, one departure a day on most days. If you're travelling by car and have time, an alternative is to combine Morro Jable, the drive across Fuerteventura, and the 25-minute ferry from Corralejo to Playa Blanca.
La Palma from Las Palmas
The direct ferry to Santa Cruz de La Palma sails only a few times a month, seven to eight hours, usually tied in with the mainland crossings. Going via Tenerife is much more frequent: fast ferry to Santa Cruz, across the island to Los Cristianos, and from there two and a half hours to La Palma.
From the mainland via Cádiz and Huelva
Las Palmas is the main destination port for the two mainland routes. Baleària Canarias sails from Cádiz in around 35 hours, calling at Lanzarote on the way, one or two departures a week. Fred Olsen Express sails the Marie Curie from Huelva in around 39 hours, three times a week, continuing on to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Taking your car on the ferry
Every ferry from Gran Canaria carries vehicles. With Baleària Canarias, the rule on the inter-island routes is: 90 minutes before departure at the terminal with a vehicle, 60 minutes without. Fred Olsen Express asks for your number plate when you book and states the boarding time on your boarding pass. With a rental car, check the rental terms beforehand, as many rental firms rule out taking the car to another island. Without a car, Agaete is the more convenient choice for Tenerife: bus from Las Palmas, fast ferry, and you're right in the middle of Santa Cruz.

Where do the ferries dock on Gran Canaria?+
Almost all at Puerto de la Luz in Las Palmas, the largest port in the Canary Islands. Only Fred Olsen Express's fast ferry from Santa Cruz de Tenerife sails to Agaete in the northwest; from there the company's Ferry Bus takes you to Las Palmas.
What's the fastest way from Gran Canaria to Tenerife?+
With Fred Olsen Express from Agaete in 80 minutes, seven departures a day. From Las Palmas, Baleària Canarias sails direct to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in around 100 minutes. There's no ferry to Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife; you continue there via Santa Cruz.
Is there a ferry from Gran Canaria to La Gomera or El Hierro?+
Not directly. Both islands are served only from Los Cristianos on Tenerife. The route is therefore by ferry to Tenerife, then by car or bus across the island to Los Cristianos, and on from there.
How long does the ferry to Fuerteventura take?+
