Timetable FAQ

The most important questions about the timetable, frequency and season of the Canary Islands ferries.

How often do ferries run between the Canary Islands?+

This varies a lot by route. Between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote (Corralejo - Playa Blanca) over 20 ferries run every day, while between Tenerife and Gran Canaria there are several sailings a day. On quieter routes to the western islands, a handful of ferries run each day. Fred Olsen Express and Baleària Canarias share the traffic, with extra departures added in peak season.

How often does the ferry run from mainland Spain to the Canary Islands?+

From Cádiz with Baleària Canarias there are usually one to two departures a week, for example to Gran Canaria or Tenerife. From Huelva with Fred Olsen Express there are around three sailings a week, for instance to Gran Canaria and Tenerife. You'll find the exact days in the live timetable above.

Do ferries to the Canary Islands run all year round?+

Yes, the connections from mainland Spain and between the islands run year-round. More ships operate during peak season and around public holidays, while in winter the schedule on some routes can be a little thinner. Vehicle spaces and cabins for the long mainland crossings fill up quickly over the holidays, so book early.

How long does the crossing from mainland Spain to the Canary Islands take?+

The Atlantic crossing from Cádiz or Huelva takes around 34 to 40 hours depending on the destination island and stopovers, so it's an overnight journey with a cabin or reclining seat. The inter-island ferries, by contrast, are short, ranging from around 25 minutes to a few hours.

Where can I find binding departure times for my travel date?+

The live timetable above shows the current departures. The binding times for your specific date and vehicle appear when you book on the relevant route page, for example Cádiz - Gran Canaria or Huelva - Tenerife.
