From Naviera Armas to Baleària Canarias
Naviera Armas is the Canary Islands' long-established ferry company, based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, founded in the 1940s and for decades the archipelago's major Ro-Pax operator. In 2018 Armas took a majority stake in Trasmediterránea, the Spanish mainland ferry company that has run ferry lines since 1917. In 2026 the group was acquired by Baleària: since May 2026 the ships in the Canary Islands have sailed under the brand Baleària Canarias, with the slogan "Three ferry companies, one history". For you, the main change is who you're booking with: booking, your customer account and check-in rules now follow Baleària, while the routes and most of the ships have stayed the same.
Fleet
The backbone is the Volcán-class Ro-Pax fleet: Volcán de Taidía and Volcán de Tagoro along with Mercedes Pinto between Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas and Morro Jable, Volcán de Tirajana and Pepita Castellví on the western islands, Volcán de Tindaya across the Bocaina strait, Volcán de Tamadaba and Sicilia on the long routes to Arrecife and Puerto del Rosario, and Volcán de Tinamar on the mainland route from Cádiz. All are vehicle ferries, and the larger ships have cabins, restaurants and outdoor decks.
Routes between the islands
Baleària Canarias sails almost every route in the archipelago: Tenerife - Gran Canaria direct to Las Palmas in 100 minutes, Tenerife - La Gomera in 50 minutes with an onward connection to La Palma, Tenerife - Fuerteventura to Morro Jable in four hours, Gran Canaria - Fuerteventura in 105 minutes and by overnight ferry to Puerto del Rosario, Gran Canaria - Lanzarote in just over six hours, and Lanzarote - Fuerteventura in 35 minutes. The overnight ferries make the company the first choice for motorhomes and travellers with plenty of luggage.
From the mainland via Cádiz
The Volcán de Tinamar sails once or twice a week from Cádiz, calling at up to five islands on a single run: Arrecife after 28 hours, Puerto del Rosario, Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife after 33 to 35 hours, and Santa Cruz de La Palma after around 47 hours. Check-in, vehicles and pets
On the Canary Islands routes: 60 minutes before departure at the terminal without a vehicle, 90 minutes with a vehicle; in Cádiz the desks open at least two hours before departure. All ferries carry cars, motorhomes, caravans, motorbikes and bicycles. You register pets when booking and choose, depending on the ship, between a Pet&You mat next to your seat, a rest pod on deck, or a pet-friendly cabin. Fares and booking
Tickets are available online, in the app and at the port desks. Canary Islands residents get the state resident discount, regular travellers collect points in the Baleària Club, and a fare with free cancellation takes the risk out of planning. Does Naviera Armas still exist?+
The ships and routes do, but the brand no longer exists. Following Baleària's takeover, Naviera Armas and Trasmediterránea have sailed in the Canary Islands under the name Baleària Canarias since May 2026. Booking, check-in and your customer account are all handled by Baleària; the former SeaClub has merged into the Baleària Club.
