The Canary Islands are connected by a dense network of ferries. This links all the islands of the archipelago with each other and with the Spanish mainland.
There are regular ferry connections from the Spanish mainland to the Canary Islands. The main departure point is the port of Cádiz in Andalusia. Naviera Armas operates routes from Cádiz to several Canary Islands - in particular to Gran Canaria and Tenerife, with stopovers on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. These crossings take place once or twice a week and last around 36 to 40 hours.
From Huelva there is a joint ferry line operated by Fred. Olsen Express and Baleària. The route leads from Huelva first to Gran Canaria and then to Tenerife. There are 3 departures per week with a crossing time of around 34 to 40 hours.
The two largest Canary Islands are connected by very busy ferries. There are numerous daily crossings by two shipping companies:
Fred. Olsen Express: runs between Agaete (Gran Canaria) and Santa Cruz de Tenerife with up to 8 departures daily. The journey time is only 80 minutes.
Naviera Armas: serves the route between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife with up to 6 departures daily. The crossing takes around 1 hour 40 minutes.
There are 6 to 8 ferries a day between Los Cristianos (Tenerife) and San Sebastián de La Gomera all year round. The crossing takes around 50 minutes. The route is operated by Fred. Olsen Express and Naviera Armas.
There are regular ferry connections from Los Cristianos to Santa Cruz de La Palma. There are usually at least two crossings a day. Fred. Olsen Express takes around 2½ hours, Armas ferries around 3 to 3½ hours (depending on the stopover in La Gomera).
The route from Los Cristianos to Puerto de La Estaca (Valverde) is served by both shipping companies. Naviera Armas offers approx. 6 crossings per week (travel time: 2 hours 30 minutes), Fred. Olsen Express offers one daily departure (journey time: 2 hours 20 minutes).
There is at least one ferry a day between Santa Cruz de La Palma and San Sebastián de La Gomera (approx. 2-3 hours). In the summer season, this connection is offered up to ten times a week.
Las Palmas - Morro Jable: Fred. Olsen Express offers up to 2 daily departures with a journey time of only 2 hours. This is the main connection between the two islands.
Las Palmas - Puerto del Rosario: Naviera Armas operates this route several times a week. The crossing takes 5½ to 6 hours.
There are over 20 ferries a day between Corralejo and Playa Blanca - up to 26 crossings in high season. The crossing takes only 25 to 35 minutes. Three shipping companies share the operation: Fred. Olsen Express, Naviera Armas and Líneas Romero.
Naviera Armas operates a direct connection between Las Palmas and Arrecife. The ferry usually runs daily and takes 6 to 7 hours for the crossing.
The car-free island of La Graciosa can be reached by ferry from the port of Órzola (Lanzarote). There are 10-16 ferries a day to Caleta de Sebo all year round. The crossing takes 20-25 minutes. The service is operated by Líneas Romero and Biosfera Express.
The tiny island of Lobos off Fuerteventura is a nature reserve. There are 5-6 ferries a day from the port of Corralejo. The journey takes just 15 minutes. Important: Advance authorization is required for the visit, as the number of visitors is limited.
